The first novel I wrote (which needs work), A Little Short, involves a month in my senior year of high school. My closest friends are the characters and the main character, Mac, is naturally based on me at that age…

You know, almost anyone you talk to says they'd like to write a book. We all have a story and have something to say, I guess. I love creating characters...it's like creating life. I'm also sort of a fairness freak. 

How did "Back to the Island" come to be written, you ask? Well, I was sittin on my porch in Hope Town, on Elbow Cay an outer Abaco island in the Bahamas, minding my own business, looking out at the masts swaying in the harbor breeze, listening to the angry Atlantic waves slapping the beach behind me.

I just got word that my pub. date is moved back to March, 2015. Man they’re slow. I also just got an email from one of my favorite writers saying she is giving up writing fiction because she can’t make a living at it. Ain’t right. Guess it’s a tough business.

One long take to explain why I sit at a desk always looking out at water, no matter where I am, scribbling away: as a kid, primarily playing sports year around, I hid from my jock friends that I didn’t watch tv but, instead, read books. 

Pub. date for Back to the Island is scheduled for Jan. 31st, 2015. Since authors have to market their own books, each week before that I'll write some teasers here to lure you into buying the book.
