Angels and Assholes #14…2016 - Lethal Absurdities
/Gun control is a problem that has reached absurd proportions. Isn’t it about time we not only acknowledge, but take action about this?

Read MoreMy dictionary defines success as: 1) A favorable or satisfying outcome; 2) The gaining of wealth, fame, rank, etc. The first, although not very specific, I agree with. The second I would say is what most people ‘think’ success is.
Read MoreThis is the little schoolhouse for the Hope Town students on Elbow Cay. The students in their colorful uniforms were so damn darling I had to visit a classroom. (Old teachers never die, they just wander into random schoolhouses, I guess.)
Read MoreReturning to the dirty world of mining, politics, and the looming threat to some of the most pristine waters on Earth. If you feel you have a social conscience, please take a moment to read and share.
Read More65% of people think they can get by, when they’re done working, on less than half of their pre-retirement income. They’re going to have a surprise, a rude surprise when the silent thief leaves them without any money.
Read MoreHere in Hope Town, a quaint little village in the Abacos, I frequently take a morning walk past the tiny red and white schoolhouse overlooking the harbor.
Read MoreBahamas for two months! Whoopie!! All 21 of the Munkeby clan for a week...including two angels—Christopher and Deano. Can't think of anything much better at the moment.
Read MoreIf any of these things are true, I suggest it’s a metaphor for a lot of what’s wrong in politics, today...things that I hope most of us would like fixed.
Read MoreWhat are the most important ‘angels’ in our lives? Maybe the ones that keep us alive? I’ll toss out there: sunlight, water, and time.
Read MoreShort Version: Greed: the capitalist crisis of our time. Expanded Version: Eventually most of us realize there’s generally two sides to most every story.
Read MoreI understand there’s a “Little Acts of Kindness Week” coming up. Sappy? Well, as long as we’re not being guilted into buying cards and presents, why not?
Read MoreDEBT…the A (avoidable)-- hole:
Last blog, I mentioned “Poverty Poker” where the masses have to ante (taxes) but have no money to bet (invest). Thus the widening divide between haves and have nots.
Read MoreShort version: The deck is stacked against the average American. Unless we change the rules of the game the “great divide” of income and wealth that now exists in the U.S. will only get wider. Wages will remain stagnant, the money will drift to the top. The 60% of Americans who have no wealth at all, living pay check to pay check, will increase.
Read MoreThe short version: You may have all heard by now about the 101 year old fella shoveling his neighbor’s sidewalk? I imagine his age is what makes it so heartwarming and, thus, newsworthy. But also he was being kind and helpful. A neighbor may be, and maybe should be, an integral part of our lives due to, if nothing else, proximity.
Read MoreEventually most of us realize there’s generally two sides to most every story. Take the police culture and Black Lives Matter culture. Some a-holes on both sides. Get an a-hole involved and there’s fireworks. There’s news. There’s protests. In some cases it’s absurd. I’m starting 2016 poking at some, what I consider, absurdities.
Read MoreI have a little request: if any of you have the inclination, please go to www.timmunkeby.com and write a comment or any thoughts you might have, negative or positive, regarding Angels and Assholes.
Read MoreMerry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Friends.
Read MoreRELIGION:
Bob Marley sang: “My religion is love.” The Dalai Lama, when asked what his religion was, replied: “Kindness.”
Good answer?
Read MoreRICH (and getting richer) A-HOLES:
We've been hearing a lot lately about the rich getting richer and the poorer poorer. Here's a good example, if not a metaphor, for why:
Read MoreMaybe by now everyone has heard of the “secret Santa” in Kansas City? Every Christmas he, anonymously, hands out $100 bills to poor folks. What a stroke of genius to have the police hand them out instead this year.

I write to consider how we all might best shuffle through the world's waltz without stepping on each others' toes. Of course, I must also entertain or all is for naught. Poking at the systems that create injustices, my stories hopefully connect with emerging generations or, also hopefully, anyone who believes they can still make a difference.
